The Many Things an Austin Optometrist Can Do
Posted by admin | Filed under Austin Eye Care
If you research history you’ll find that one doctor used to have to do a large number of different things. Not only was the town doctor the person to go to if you had a broken bone, but also the person to see if you needed surgery. And, as if that wasn’t enough, the town doctor was also the person to see for a tooth problem, as well as the go-to person for vision problems! Now, however, an optometrist is much more thoroughly trained than they used to be, and if you’re looking for an Austin Optometrist, you may be surprised at all of the things that they can help you with.
Contact Lenses
If you need to have glasses, you may be frustrated. This is natural because glasses can be something that is frustrating to deal with. Who wants to have to be constantly shoving their lenses back up their nose, or cleaning the glass because it’s gotten dirty accidentally? That’s why so many people now wear contact lenses. Contact lenses allow you to correct your vision without having to actually wear something on your face. Most people’s eyes tolerate contact lenses reasonably well, and the only way that you can get them is to schedule a contact lens exam with your optometrist. This special type of exam focuses on helping you to find the right type of contacts for your needs. The optometrist will measure your eyes and will talk with you about all of the different brands of contact lenses that are available to you. You may be given a pair to try and, if those do not work, another pair may be tried. Eventually you should be able to find the perfect pair of contact lenses for your eyes, giving you perfect vision without wearing clunky glasses.
LASIK
Another thing that many people look to their optometrist for now is LASIK. LASIK surgery is a way to get your eyesight corrected so that you will not have to wear glasses, or contact lenses, again. It is a complicated procedure that can only be performed by a qualified optometrist, and while many optometrists cannot do the procedure, most are qualified to tell you if your eyes are prime candidates to have the LASIK procedure done or not.
Today’s optometrists offices are much different than they used to be, and while an optometrist cannot do everything, there are many things that they can help you with. If, for instance, you have a problem with glaucoma, you may find that your optometrist is qualified to help you with the problem, or they will be more than able to point you towards an Austin glaucoma specialist who can help you to fix the problem. When was the last time you had an appointment to see an optometrist? If you haven’t made an appointment in a number of years, try giving your local Austin optometrist a call. You’ll find that they are able to help you in a variety of different ways.
