Heading into 2012: Men’s Hair Trends & Laser Hair Removal

It is no secret that men’s hair and fashion are often overshadowed by their female counterparts. Despite changing trends in men visiting salons, the beauty business has always catered to women first. However, that is not to say that men can’t be pampered, groomed, and treated first class in spas and salons. New hair trends, both in hairstyle and hair removal give guys more reason than ever to flaunt fashion.

The ‘Dos of 2011-2012 Men’s haircuts have taken on a sort of revised throwback style recently and that look is expected to last. Calling on nineteenth century cuts, the more modern styling is a little messier, but cleaner at the same time. Fewer products and more freedom appear to be the keys to keeping up with the trend. This has led to the fringe look of 2010 sticking around. Whether curly or straight, wet or swept, free hanging locks have masculine appeal. Shorter in the back and longer in the front, variations of the hairdo can be crafted to suit nearly every face shape. The wet look invites the unruly, but others choose a more classic side part, much like what would have been seen in the days of Cary Grant. This cut is very versatile and can serve both the teenage schoolboy and the professional quite well. It may even be slicked back for a more groomed and sophisticated look.

Bringing Back Seventies Curl Probably the most influential decade when considering the trends of today was the 1970’s. Especially for men with naturally curly locks, the looks of the seventies can easily be cleaned up to work in 2012. Again, the trick of cutting it shorter in the back while leaving some length in the front. The curls can maintain their natural wild abandon, but still have a slightly more groomed look than the ‘fros of decades past.

Facial Hair Hairs on the head might get the most attention in the press, but handled incorrectly, facial- and body hair can cause quite a stir as well. 2012 is going to be the year of the clean-cut. Magazines, newspapers, and television are swamped with images of men’s baby faces. Austin laser hair removal will likely see an increase in business as men continue to seek the ‘smooth all over look’ in the coming year. However, for those who simply don’t do the freshly shaven look, the opposite side of the spectrum is also being visited. The rough and unruly beard has also been spotted on many occasions recently. This is not the time to go half-way with a goatee or mustache. Instead opt for the all-or-nothing approach to facial hair.

Body Hair With the invention of so many unique hair removal techniques, lush body hair is, and has been, a thing of the past. Men and women alike are recognizing the appeal of a smooth, and nearly hairless body. Men should look to do away with any stray back hair and might even go so far as to lose the chest hair as well, in 2012. Shaving, waxing, and especially laser hair removal will become common phrases in men’s vocabularies in the coming months.

Is your vehicle really worth it?

Worldwide, consumers’ hard earned money will go to both small and large auto repair. Austinis no different. With all of these auto repairs that can quickly creep up, many people are in a bind for cash and cannot fix their vehicle. It can make you wonder if the city bus is such a bad idea. Some of the most basic repairs are:

* Oil pump – $450
* Transmission – $2000
* Starter – $305
* A/C compressor – $750

According to the Department of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics, owning a car is the largest household expense in the United States. The only thing that costs more is your home! So with all of the cost that a car entails, is it really worth it?

Many think a motorcycle is the answer to their prayers. On average, they are a cheaper vehicle to buy. But motorcycle repair is still costly:

* Fuel tank – $800
* Electrical – $1000
* Wheel bearings – $275
* Steering – $500

These are the true cost of motorcycle maintenance and motorcycle repair in Austin, TX; repairs can be made to both types of vehicles in some shops. But, in others, you are limited to what a shop can work on (motorcycle vs. automobile). No matter what you decide to drive, you may be in for large bills in the future.

Other Vehicle Repairs

Car repair and motorcycle repair are not the only costs drivers have to worry about. These are daily vehicles that get you from point A to point B. But some vehicles are just for fun, like a four wheeler. That doesn’t mean it is without cost though. Four wheeler repair can take a large chunk out of your budget. It makes it even worse when the four wheeler is just for fun and does not actually serve another purpose at your home. It is a high price to pay for a toy.

Despite the need to get around, vehicles can prove to be more trouble than they are worth. Not only do you have to pay for the repairs, but you are also without your primary source of transportation while it is in the shop. This can leave many drivers desperate and can affect your personal and professional life.

Society has become dependent on these vehicles as their daily tool, and they are so easy to use that they would be very hard to give up. But keep in mind, the city bus is always waiting. In Austin a single bus ride is $1.00. A month long pass is $30.00. With these rates, buying a month long pass every month for a year would only total $360. You wouldn’t have to buy a vehicle and you would never have to pay for vehicle repairs.

This may be the best choice for some people, but others just want their own form of transportation no matter what the costs may be.

The Many Things an Austin Optometrist Can Do

If you research history you’ll find that one doctor used to have to do a large number of different things. Not only was the town doctor the person to go to if you had a broken bone, but also the person to see if you needed surgery. And, as if that wasn’t enough, the town doctor was also the person to see for a tooth problem, as well as the go-to person for vision problems! Now, however, an optometrist is much more thoroughly trained than they used to be, and if you’re looking for an Austin Optometrist, you may be surprised at all of the things that they can help you with.

Contact Lenses

If you need to have glasses, you may be frustrated. This is natural because glasses can be something that is frustrating to deal with. Who wants to have to be constantly shoving their lenses back up their nose, or cleaning the glass because it’s gotten dirty accidentally? That’s why so many people now wear contact lenses. Contact lenses allow you to correct your vision without having to actually wear something on your face. Most people’s eyes tolerate contact lenses reasonably well, and the only way that you can get them is to schedule a contact lens exam with your optometrist. This special type of exam focuses on helping you to find the right type of contacts for your needs. The optometrist will measure your eyes and will talk with you about all of the different brands of contact lenses that are available to you. You may be given a pair to try and, if those do not work, another pair may be tried. Eventually you should be able to find the perfect pair of contact lenses for your eyes, giving you perfect vision without wearing clunky glasses.

LASIK

Another thing that many people look to their optometrist for now is LASIK. LASIK surgery is a way to get your eyesight corrected so that you will not have to wear glasses, or contact lenses, again. It is a complicated procedure that can only be performed by a qualified optometrist, and while many optometrists cannot do the procedure, most are qualified to tell you if your eyes are prime candidates to have the LASIK procedure done or not.

Today’s optometrists offices are much different than they used to be, and while an optometrist cannot do everything, there are many things that they can help you with. If, for instance, you have a problem with glaucoma, you may find that your optometrist is qualified to help you with the problem, or they will be more than able to point you towards an Austin glaucoma specialist who can help you to fix the problem. When was the last time you had an appointment to see an optometrist? If you haven’t made an appointment in a number of years, try giving your local Austin optometrist a call. You’ll find that they are able to help you in a variety of different ways.

A Dental Office Closer to Home

A Dental Office Closer to Home

Sometimes you can get frustrated when you have to take off of work just to drive an hour to your dentist in the city. Doing so means you have lost an hour’s worth of wages, and sometimes that can make a difference in your overall budget. This is especially true during the current economic times when every penny counts. That means that changing dentists can be a great idea. Not only will you save some of your wages, but you will also save on other things as well!

Choosing a dentist office doesn’t have to be a big hassle. Ask around to see what people have to say. Look to offices that are closer to where you work or closer to where you live. Where are you more likely to head to the dentist from? Consider these factors so you have a clearer idea on how long you may need to get from where you are to the new dentist office. You may be surprised at how much time you will save and how close the new office may be.

Relocating can also help to save you gas and time. If you have children, the location of the new Austin dentist can make life a lot easier. Consider this; the appointment is at 3 o’clock. You have to leave work and go to your child’s school to get him or her to an Austin invisalign appointment. Some parents may even have kids in grade school and others in high school. If you schedule their appointments one right after the other, it means two trips to two schools. Then you have to go all the way to the dentist’s office. That can be a lot of driving! But when you find a dentist office close to the areas you need to be, then you may find your driving time cut down – maybe cut in half or more!

An Austin dentist in a closer area may be better for you and your family in other ways as well. One that is closer to the schools or your home may be smaller, but that also gives them a quainter, more family-oriented feel. Whether you go in for a bit of tooth restoration or some high quality Austin teeth whitening, your new dentist will be ready to assist you with a pleasant smile and with warm assistants that are not just about the job, but about you. You may find the practice to be exactly what you want in terms of friendliness and price.

If this sounds like something you would be interested in, don’t wait – especially if you aren’t comfortable with your current dentist. Instead, start to look for change, for places you and your family can go to with a sense of anticipation knowing that you are in good hands the entire time. A good dentist will assist you in all sorts of ways, from gingival sculpting to tooth bonding to even giving you a porcelain veneers Austin appointment. Soon you may find yourself smiling brightly with a positive change in dentists and clean, happy teeth. Your family (and your bank account!) will thank you for all the time and money saved as well.

The Drawbacks of EMG/NCV Testing

There are thousands upon thousands, if not millions of Americans who report to doctors’ offices each year reporting pain. When that pain is accompanied by muscle weakness, doctors will often call for an EMG/NCV test to be preformed. This is an Electromyography and nerve conduction velocity test. They are actually two tests performed simultaneously. The first tests for proper muscle response to a signal sent in its direction, while the second determines if any abnormal responses are due to nerve damage. These tests, which were brought about by the injuries suffered by soldiers in the Second World War, have been proven to be fairly successful in determining if there is nerve damage. However, it has been years since then and there are two definite drawbacks to this technology that have not been resolved and which should be noted. You may want to contact a pain management austin center to discuss this type of testing. They can help you in making a decision in choosing a austin texas back pain doctor. Ask them about whiplash treatment austin,tx and sciatica pain. They are some of the best back pain doctors austin tx.

The first is that the test is not always as conclusive as some medical professionals would like us to believe. Ten to fifteen percent of the NCV tests performed come back with a false positive result, and for some of the diseases which are tested for with EMG, it has been reported that 30-40% of the negative results were false negatives. Furthermore, these tests are not highly effective on small nerve fibers, such as some of those located in the neck, and only five percent of patients reporting pain are considered for these tests anyway. You may need a caudal epidural steroid injection with ganglion impar block. The reason for this is because they must also have accompanying muscle weakness for the EMG test to be effective. So, even if there is actual nerve damage, without muscle weakness, it cannot be determined.

The second shortcoming of this exam is the anxiety that it induces in patients. Typically, there are two portions of this exam- the first is done with electrical shock sensations sent to the muscles being tested and the second is done with needles, which actually pierce the skin and act as electrodes to stimulate muscle reactions. The thirty to ninety minute exam is uncomfortable, to say the least, and for people who suffer from blenophobia (fear of needles), this can be a very traumatic event.

None of this is to say that EMG/NCV tests do not have a place in the medical world, but there are shortcomings that should be brought to the attention of pain sufferers. It should also be noted that these tests are no longer the only way to test for nerve damage. The specialists at Interventional Pain Associates have opted for a less invasive, less painful way of determining what damage, if any, a patient has suffered. They may recommend botox for pelvic pain Austin TX. The neural scan Austin employed by these professionals is ninety-five percent sensitive in detecting the cause of pain, yet it requires no needles. Interventional Pain Associates understand that you have suffered enough pain already without having to bear another thirty to ninety minutes of pin-pricking torture. This device will allow them to diagnose with accuracy and without such drastic measures, so they can help you create the plan for treatment or cure that best suits your needs. They have a migraine doctor austin that can recommend alternative therapies. They can also help you with fibromyalgia treatment in Austin and failed back surgery syndrome Austin. IPA are the doctors in austin tx that treat sciatic nerve pain.

Diabetes and eye care

Although some people are born pre-disposed to having vision problems later in life, there are also some medical conditions that can create or exacerbate current vision problems. One of those medical conditions is diabetes. Diabetes is a condition that creates high levels of blood sugar in a person’s body, because their body does not properly regulate insulin within the body. With the condition can come a whole host of issues including vision problems, poor circulation which can lead to loss of a limb, cardiovascular disease, and renal failure. Lasik surgery is in high demand to help correct these vision problems.

Vision problems occur because unregulated blood sugar can cause blurry vision. Also, those with diabetes can develop diabetic retinopathy which is damage to the retina of the eye caused by complications of diabetes. It can eventually lead to blindness. It can effect up to 80% of people who have had diabetes for 10 years or longer. Lens implants may be necessary if this problem persists.

Even though this may sound scary, there are ways to prevent and reduce the severity of eye problems in people with diabetes. One of the easiest ways is with vigilant eye care screenings. What you could have once put off as an unnecessary eye check-up has now become crucial to the survival of your current way of life. To improve your eyes get more information about glaucoma.

When you go for your annual eye check-up, you should see an optometrist or an ophthalmologist. This is crucial, because opticians are not trained to detect the signs of retinopathy. If you do have the condition, you will need to see an ophthalmologist, because only they can treat the disease. Make sure your practitioner knows that you have diabetes so that they are aware of the need to monitor your vision more closely. Cataract screening will be necessary so be sure to talk about it with your provider.

If you do have eye disease, you will likely need to have more frequent visits so that your ophthalmologist can keep a close eye on the progression of the disease. There is a good chance that visits to an ophthalmologist for this condition may be covered under your medical insurance, even if you do not have a vision plan. This is because it is considered a medical condition, rather than routine eye care. A corneal transplant may be needed down the road.

Aside from regular visits to your eye care professional, in order to maintain good eye health, you also need to keep your blood sugar levels under control, which is of course something you should be doing anyway. You also need to keep your blood pressure under control with diet and exercise and stop smoking if you smoke.

Some signs of diabetes-related eye issues that you should be on the look-out for are seeing double, pain in one or both eyes, redness in eyes that doesn’t go away, seeing spots, reduction in peripheral vision, and trouble reading signs or books. Macular degeneration is a very serious and threatening condition.

Even though you know what to do to live a healthy life with diabetes, it can be difficult to stay on track. Eye disease, can lead to blindness, use that as a motivator to stay on track with your eating and exercise. Eating a healthy diet in conjunction with lasik surgery opens up a new way of life.

Austin Gay & Lesbian

For decades now, Austin has been a mecca for gays and lesbians in the state of Texas. Part of this reason is because of the university but it is also due to people here simply being more accepting of others than you find in some areas. Here are just a few events for the queer community in Austin.

Enjoy a monthly gay skate at Skate World, located at 9514 Anderson Mill Rd. This fun and inclusive event is open to both young and old and is a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. This event is also open to those folks who will be using rollerblades. For first timers and experienced skaters, this is the event for you.

The Bouldin Creek Coffeehouse plays host to a monthly queer performance night. Located at 1501 South First, the coffeehouse serves up fresh, dark roast and laughs by the dozen. A great, all ages night out for the whole family.

Head to Charlie’s for a night you won’t soon forget! Have a wonderful meal for a low price and then stick around for a night of adults-only entertainment. Have a tasty steak or chicken meal followed by a night of stripping from locals. Dance until the wee hours of the morning and have a great time at Charlie’s.

A night at Oilcan Harry’s is a night you will remember for a long time. Enjoy crazy drink specials and amateur strip nights that will get your blood pumping. Located on 211 W. Fourth, this bar is close to everything and it a popular destination for both queer customers and straights. Enjoy a truly upscale environment that you will love to visit over and over.

Austin Pride is held every year during the first week in June. The event grows every year to include more days, more music, more dancing, more rainbows and more fun. The biggest event of the week is the pride parade, which is a sight to behold. If you are a pride veteran or a first time viewer, you won’t want to miss this yearly event in beautiful Austin, Texas. Don’t miss it!

Browser wars

Not so long ago, there wasn’t much in the way of choices when it came to surfing the web. You could use Microsoft Internet Explorer or you could use Netscape. Today, Netscape has been reborn as Mozilla Firefox, but there are also browsers from Google and a popular browser called Opera. Which browser is right for you? It depends on what you are looking for in a browser, how often you use the net and what you like to do.

If all you are looking for is speed, than the browser for you is Google Chrome. Sites tend to load a full second faster in Chrome than in any other browser. Chrome is also winning over a lot of fans due to the fact that Google is planning on coming out with their own operating system soon and Chrome is going to be a big part of that. However, at press time, Chrome doesn’t allow add-ons, which is one of the biggest parts of browsing the Internet.

If add-ons are your thing and you like a browser that is safe and easy to use, check out Mozilla Firefox. You can add on all of the applications you like, such as pop up blockers, time wasters like Stumble or anything else you like. Pages don’t load quite as quick as they do in Chrome, but Firefox is very customizable and that is a big thing for a lot of people. If you want the Internet with all of the bells and whistles out there, than Firefox is the browser for you.

If you are new to the Internet or all you want to do is check your email and a sports score now and then, there is no need to download any of these other browsers. Simply use Internet Explorer and you’ll be fine. For hardcore web users, Explorer is clunky, slow and awkward to use, but if you don’t know a megabyte from a mouse, you won’t have any issues with Microsoft’s home browser. It gets the job done without having to download and learn any new software.

Stay tuned, there are other new browsers set to hit the market over the next year, and they may completely change the way you use the Internet.

Support Black GST

Our specific demands:

  • Detente (end of war)
  • Recognition of Sovereignty Act (to be passed by Parliament and added to the Constitution)
  • Treaty process entered (this is a long process, but authentic steps and resources could be committed to demonstrate good faith)

We are maintaining an ongoing campaign for these issues to be recognised and acted upon by the Australian Government. This is a national campaign of primary importance for all people living in this country, indigenous and non-indigenous.
Convergence:

Our initial call and first campaign was for the Stolenwealth Games in Melbourne, 15-26 March 2006, and the visit to Australia by the Queen. Our news and events pages covers much of what took place, principally around the Convergence of indigenous and non-indigenous supporters that coalesced into Camp Sovereignty in the Kings Domain, Melbourne.
Custodianship of the Sacred Flame lit there has been passed to the Camp Sovereignty Crew, and the Black GST is planning the next phase of our long term struggle against the injustices that lie at the foundation of this nation, and our concern that they are ongoing and being swept under the rug.
